The Barber Party & EKMS in Malmö

The past weekend I had the pleasure of attending both The Barber Party and the Swedish beard competition En Karl Med Skägg, EKMS. (A man with a beard). Both events were held in Malmö, Sweden, which meant a 6 hour train ride, luckily I had my fiancée with me to talk to!

We arrived in Malmö at 3 PM and headed to the hotel, a quick wardrobe change and we were on our way. The Barber Party was held by The Barber, a local barbershop in Malmö. And specially invited guests were, among others, Schorem Barber from the Netherlands. Schorem is considered to be the rockstars of barbers, and I could see why. During their workshop, which was filled with barbering, humor and applause, I saw why they are one of the best. The slight of hand, precision and quality of their work was amazing. It was really an honor to see them in action. (Schorem also means “asshole” in Dutch, or so I’ve heard)

We also helped out Barber Supplier on site with their booth, talking beard products to other people in the business. We snapped some photos and mingled a bit before it was time to pack up at around 7 PM. Another wardrobe change at the hotel and we headed off to EKMS. A great event with A LOT of beards. I met so many friends who’m I’ve only been talking to online, and also friends from before. It was really great.

At the end of EKMS, a people and jury selected winner was chosen, who sported the best beard. A process which had been going on for weeks. You can see the final below in the video.

At around 11.30 PM we headed back to the hotel and decided to check back in at The Barber Party, and I’m so glad we did, on stage where The Vanjas. Amazing live performance, really truly goosebumpy music. Loved it. Video below!

A funny thing happened as well, I got recognized by Martin from Drink Caliente, he had seen me in the news about the Bearded Villains being mistaken for terrorist. I even got to pose for a picture! :)
